Welcome! Ẹ ká’àbọ̀!

I believe leadership is key. Leadership determines your growth as an individual and the progress of your organization, community, and nation. You only rise to the extent of your leadership capacity. John Maxwell says, “Everything rises and falls on leadership.” As a John Maxwell Team speaker, trainer, and coach, I offer keynote speeches and workshops, 1:1 coaching, and books to help you develop your leadership capacity and to succeed as a person, professional, business owner, and community leader.
Back story
In 1990, I joined the mass youth exodus out of Nigeria. The previous week, my boyfriend had “shipped out” with three other college graduates from his street! My generation was reeling from the impact of the International Monetary Fund’s Structural Adjustment Program (SAP). In a period of 5 years, our parents were poorer than their parents and we saw no jobs, no money, no future.
“What is wrong with Nigeria is leadership” – Rachel Adegboye.
It took two graduate degrees and countless headache-inducing debates to reach the conclusion my mother often stated - the problem of Nigeria is one of leadership. It is a lack of leadership that places majority of the citizens of an oil-producing economy, below the poverty line. It is a lack of leadership that forces a country to accept currency devaluation and other poverty-inducing dictates from the International Financial Institutions without challenge. It is a lack of leadership that causes youth helplessness, hopelessness, and emptiness.
I write nonfiction and fiction for young adults and the next generation. My books include: Reflections on Nigerian Christianity, Wanna B Prez? 10 Life Strategies from President Barack Obama’s Journey to the White House, Owanbe! Yoruba Celebrations of Life, and Ibadan Girls’ Trilogy (consists three short stories - Renike comes to America, Shally Baby, and Fine Sisi).

Some of My Favorite Things

My favorite book is Mariama Ba’s So Long a Letter. Written as a letter between best friends, it tells the story of a modern woman, Ramatoulaye adjusting to the age-old practice of polygamy. Set in Senegal, its lyrical language beautifully captures the essence of the culture. When I grow up, I want to write like that 😊
I love to dance. When I hear good music (think drums and percussion), something leaps in my spirit and forces my limbs to arc and sway.
I love the open road, swallowing mile upon mile of highway. On the road, I can think up plot twists, generate great stories, listen to motivational talks, and good music (the kind that vibrates your brain cells).
